T.R. Knight has officially left Grey's Anatomy, a source tells Usmagazine.com.
Months after Us exclusively reported that he and costar Katherine Heigl are exiting the hit ABC doc drama, the actor was released from his contract this week, a source tells Us. The source adds that show creator Shonda Rhimes had until June 30 to decide Knight's fate, but the actor ended up asking the network himself to be let go early.
"He's had enough of Shonda and ABC," says the source. "He decided to take back his power."
In the May season finale, Knight's character Dr. George O'Malley appeared to have died after he was struck by a bus. (The fate of Heigl's character Izzie also looked grim, as she lost consciousness following her cancer battle. It remains to be seen if she will return to the show in the fall.)
Both reps for Knight and ABC have no comment.
