Stephen Colbert Interviews Eminem on Public Access Television, and It’s Comedy Gold: Watch Now!

Monroe, Michigan, residents got a special treat on Wednesday, July 1. The town, which is a 45-minute drive from Detroit, had a surprise guest host on their local public access show, Only in Monroe. Future Late Show host Stephen Colbert ran all 41 minutes of the show, and he featured one special celebrity guest star.

“My next guest is a local Michigander who is making a name for himself in the competitive world of music,” Colbert, 51, said before introducing Eminem (aka Marshall Mathers).

He went on to ask Eminem, 42, several questions about his music, seemingly surprised that the rapper had a credible career.

“Are you more political or are you more booty rhymes?” the comedian questioned.

“In the middle? Right in the crack,” Eminem replied.

“That’s a steamy place to have your career,” he said.

When Colbert asked about the use of “bad words” in his music, Eminem quickly assured him that he never cursed. He also had a message for those rappers who did choose to use foul language: “You don’t have to do it. Watch your f—king mouths.”

At one point things got tense between the host and guest, when Colbert asked the Grammy winner, “Are you about to go? Were we about to go?”

“Not unless you wanted to?” Eminem replied.

“I don’t want to, but I won’t back down,” Colbert responded. “You come into my house and you flex up on me and you expect me to back down? You are sadly mistaken.”

The jokester later apologized, saying, “I’m sorry, I was fronting. I want to apologize.”

“That, you were,” Eminem said.

Keeping an entirely straight face throughout the broadcast, Eminem even offered to perform on the show, but Colbert insisted that they didn’t have enough time in the 41-minute segment. The rapper did, however, help the late night host read off the list of Monroe’s calendar of events to close out the episode.
