Port Charles may soon be changing.

“So, there’s a guy on the show right now who came on the show,” General Hospital star Steve Burton hinted on the Sunday, August 30, episode of his “That’s Awesome” podcast. “You guys will see him, but I had some scenes with him — and I can’t say what it is yet — but I said, ‘Do you know exactly what’s happening?’”

Burton, 56, portrays Jason Morgan, teasing on Sunday that the new character plays an “important” role in the larger GH landscape.

Without revealing his new costar or their role, Burton said that the General Hospital newcomer didn’t “really know what’s really happened” though created his own “backstory” for the character.

“He’s been an actor for a long, long time. He’s been on some primetime shows,” Burton teased of his new colleague. “He’s done this a long time. So I said, ‘Do you mind if I just tell what this is, who this is, why they’re doing it, and what the involvement for me is?’ And he goes, ‘No, I would love to.’”

While the mystery actor could play a new character, it is also possible that he could be taking over the mantle played by another soap veteran.

Elsewhere on Sunday’s episode, Burton and cohost Bradford Anderson even opened up about the challenges of “recasts.”

“The actor doesn’t know all that stuff that exists, hasn’t seen it [or] hasn’t felt it,” Anderson, 46, acknowledged. “Then, the viewer doesn’t get that same feeling. It’s so much work for the person in that position to build it in their own way, which can only be serviced by time. You can’t just create it out of nothing.”

With the new actor, Burton noted that he was able to share “just a few things” to help his characterization.

“Once he airs we can talk about it more,” Burton coyly added.

While Burton did not reveal who the mystery actor will play, social media fans are convinced that either Jerry Jacks (Sebastian Roché) or Jasper “Jax” Jacks (Ingo Rademacher) could be likely contenders.

“It’s someone who can provide even more airtime for the current small group of actors who get story after story,” one X user theorized, pointing to Jerry, as another fan believed Jax could be the next to go. “With Joss’ new story, Maxie’s family moving there, the new doctor, etc., they are bringing the Australian connection to the forefront these days. And it could possibly be related to Jason and Sonny getting out of ‘the business.’”

Kirsten Storms’ Maxie recently left Port Charles for Australia, leading the aforementioned fan to wonder whether Jax could also make the move.
