Hunger Games fans are getting another look at the franchise’s newest movie, Sunrise on the Reaping.

Lionsgate dropped a new trailer for the upcoming film on Monday, April 13, featuring a full, first look at Elle Fanning as Effie Trinket, Kieran Culkin as Caesar Flickerman, Maya Hawke as Wiress and Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee. Ralph Fiennes also appears as President Coriolanus Snow.

Joseph Zada is front and center in the trailer as Haymitch Abernathy, who must fight for his life as a tribute in the second Quarter Quell, a special edition of the Hunger Games that occurs every 25 years and features twice the number of tributes from each District.

“I’m sick of living in fear. Just surviving. We’re not animals to be killed for their entertainment,” Haymitch says in the trailer.

Snow is also heard saying in a voiceover, “If you disobey me, we shall open the bloodbath with the longest, most drawn out death your people have ever seen.”

Effie’s sass is on full display elsewhere in the trailer as she responds to a fan who called her “brilliant.”

“I confess to having a moment,” she says with a smile.

The cast also includes McKenna Grace, Ben Wang, Whitney Peak, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Lili Taylor and Glenn Close.

Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are also expected to make appearances in their original roles of Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, respectively.

Sunrise on the Reaping, directed by Francis Lawrence, is based on Suzanne Collins’ 2025 novel of the same name, set 24 years before the events of the original Hunger Games, “starting on the morning of the reaping of the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell,” according to the film’s synopsis.

The Hunger Games series began in 2008 and features three installments in the original trilogy — The Hunger Games, Catching Fire and Mockingjay — as well as two prequels, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and Sunrise on the Reaping. The dystopian saga is set in the nation of Panem, a post-apocalyptic North America divided into a wealthy Capitol and 12 impoverished districts. The story centers around the Hunger Games, an event that pits teens against each other in a televised fight to the death.

Zada told Polyester magazine in 2025 that he felt “very excited” and “very nervous” to take on the role of Haymitch, who was played by Woody Harrelson in the original films.

“Very excited, very nervous. It feels like I am a tribute and the Capitol is all the viewers watching to see whether I’m ever going to act again,” he said. ‘But I’m so excited, the cast is incredible, and I’m excited for everyone else to see who else is in it.”

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping hits theaters on November 20.
