Want there to be a Super Troopers sequel — or better yet, want to BE IN Super Troopers 2? Then get out your wallets! The comedy group Broken Lizard, who are behind the widely successful 2001 comedy, are crowdfunding to get the highly anticipated sequel made.
According to their page on Indiegogo, the moviemakers need $2 million to make the followup happen. “We’ve been waiting for years to [make this happen]…The script is written and we’re getting all antsy in our pantsy to start shooting. There’s just one problem: While the studio has given us permission to make the sequel, and agreed to distribute it (at least in the USA and Canada), we need to fund the movie ourselves,” the group explains on the site. “So this is how it works: if we’re able to raise at least $2,000,000 in the next month, we’ll be able to get to work on a barebones version of Super Troopers 2 this summer. But $2,000,000 is the bare minimum we’ll need to get into production.”
The funnymen — Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, Erik Stolhanske, Kevin Heffernan, and Jay Chandrasekhar — are, of course, making the donations well worth it.
While one can donate just $10 and receive a “sweet digital-mega script,” you can also donate $10,000 and get a speaking role in the movie or even $25,000 for the cast to appear in your wedding. If you can dish out $35,000, you get a producing credit and one of the movie’s patrol cars.
Broken Lizard touts if they receive over $2 million, it’ll be an even “better movie” too and will include “cameos from real Hollywood actors,” “more full-frontal Farva,” and possibly even “Kate Upton.”
Us Weekly exclusively revealed the sequel was confirmed while chatting with Steve Lemme last October. “You know, it was a combination of having to settle some of the legal disputes about making a sequel, while also negotiating terms for it,” he told Us of why it’s taken 14 years to get No. 2 going. "The fans have been asking for it for a while, but we were finally able to package everything together. Fox is going to distribute the film, but we needed to raise the money for it. We're close. There may be a Kickstarter launched to raise the last little bit,” he predicted.
