The reality TV star, who returns to MTV in the season 6 premiere on Monday, August 22, tells Us that she is “definitely feeling good” since her release in April following a monthlong stint at an Arizona treatment facility. Lowell, 24, sought help for panic attacks, coupled with the depression that returned after the birth of daughter Novalee, 19 months.

“I’ve only had two panic attacks since I’ve been out, and they’ve been very easy to manage, which is good,” the MTV mainstay says. “And I’m just enjoying life. Taking Nova out right now and going to the beach and exploring. And starting to do things that I want to do. So it’s been good.

“But it’s definitely just still a long road ahead,” she continues. “Lots of therapy. Lots of finding out more about myself and digging deeper. And that’s only going to help the future, I think. So I’ve got to stay on that path and continue to keep doing that.”

Lowell says that her treatment was “amazing,” as the counselors worked with her during panic attacks to stop focusing on her fears and take her “mind off of whatever [my] subconscious is thinking.”

“It was amazing — I learned a lot about myself,” she says. “They just gave me a lot of tools and a lot of the things that I needed. … I definitely got out feeling more stable.”

She adds that her husband, 24, and Nova would visit her throughout her stay, and her man’s support was a big reason why the treatment was a success: “I was like, ‘Wow, I’m so lucky to have him just to hold the fort down while I’m gone.’”

Lowell says that although she is currently on birth control, the couple have talked about the possibility of expanding their brood, with Baltierra having recently joked that he wants six kids. (They are also parents to Carly, 7, who they placed for adoption, as documented by MTV in season 1 of 16 and Pregnant.) Lowell knows she could potentially deal with postpartum depression again with another pregnancy, but she feels better equipped to handle it.

“My counselor even said, ‘The next time that you’re pregnant, you make a plan,’” she says. “Make a plan, and you tell people, ‘If this happens again, I need this from you.’ You know? To help me through it. You just have to ask for the help and make a plan ahead of time. And it’s definitely scary, and it’s something to think, about but I know that it can be overcome.”
