The Bear closed down the kitchen and the 2026 Emmy Awards with only one award, marking the end of the hit series’ Emmy domination.
During the awards ceremony held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Monday, September 14, The Bear lost Outstanding Comedy Series to newcomer Widow’s Bay.
The Bear was nominated for eight awards at the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards on Monday, September 14, including Outstanding Comedy Series. Ayo Edebiri received a nod for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series but loss to Jean Smart for Hacks, while creator Christopher Storer was nominated for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series but lost the trophy to Hiro Murai for Widow’s Bay.
Ahead of the awards show, The Bear already secured its one and only victory at the 2026 Creative Arts Emmy Awards. Rob Reiner posthumously won for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his role as Albert Schnur in season 4 of the hit FX series. The late actor, who was killed at 78 in December 2025, received a standing ovation from the audience. Presenter Wendi McLendon-Covey accepted the award on his behalf.
“We all wish he was here,” the actress, 56, said on September 6.
Reiner’s win was the only award The Bear received on Monday. The show didn’t take home the prize in the Outstanding Cinematography for a Single-Camera Series, Outstanding Picture Editing for a Single-Camera Comedy Series and Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy or Drama Series categories. Jamie Lee Curtis was also nominated for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series, but it was Betty Gilpin who walked away with the win for her role in Widow’s Bay.
While The Bear was recognized at the Emmys for season 4, the series wrapped up for good earlier this year. Its fifth and final season premiered on FX in June. (Season 5 will be eligible for the Emmys in 2027.)
“It’s bittersweet that the show is ending,” Edebiri, 30, said of the series ending in a June interview with Vogue. “I feel so connected to this group of people, these characters, and everything that we’ve gotten to do together. So I feel really content with that, but I really do love these guys and I’m going to miss working with them.”
The Bear was an instant success following its premiere in 2022. In addition to receiving praise from fans, the dramedy earned critical acclaim. Over the years, The Bear has earned a total of 57 nominations while taking home 21 wins.
At last year’s ceremony, The Bear was shut out and walked away with zero wins — a first in its history — despite being nominated in six categories. The Bear season 3 earned mixed reviews from fans but came back with a vengeance with its penultimate season.
