The Decemberists Sing YouTube Comments on Jimmy Kimmel Live: Watch!

The Decemberists proved that there truly is art everywhere — even in the depths of YouTube comments. The folk band stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Thursday, Jan. 22, and hilariously made songs out of the spammy, random, and alarmist words often spewed below videos.

“Good lyrics are very difficult to write and that’s why I appreciate tonight’s band, The Decemberists,” host Jimmy Kimmel began. “They write interesting, very intelligent songs about uncommon subjects. It’s not the usual ‘I want to get busy with your bottom’ kind of thing.”

Made up of Jenny Conlee, Chris Funk, Colin Meloy, John Moen, and Nate Query, The Decemberists took the stage to show just how sophisticated their lyrics can be.

“These are the real YouTube comments you see under the videos set gloriously to music,” Kimmel added.

Playing to a video of cute pandas goofing around, the group crooned a comment from a user named Alex, singing, “Yeah cute now / But they’ll eat your ass / if they’re hungry enough.”

Picking the beat up, the musicians then took on a video of “Kim Kardashian’s Plastic Surgery Transformation.”

“OMG,” they sang, borrowing words from a user Natalie. “She proved she didn’t have a butt implant / With a butt X-ray / And she admitted / She gets Botox / She does squats, her nose still has a hump in it / If you actually / look at a recent pic of her nose / you will see it.”
