The Girls cast is giving thanks to Khloé Kardashian for all of her support — both on- and off-camera — in the midst of their new reality show.
“Khloé is our executive producer and narrator for all things in this friend group,” Malika Haqq, star of the new series The Girls, exclusively shared with Us earlier this month. “She does show up a little bit more as kind of like a therapist because she’s not around the entire time that we’re filming this series, but she’s never missing.”
Hulu’s new reality program takes viewers deep inside Khloé’s inner circle as her closest friends navigate the highs and lows of motherhood, marriage, dating, business and life in the spotlight.
With Khloé, 42, serving as an executive producer, Malika, 43, believes the cast — composed of Khadijah Haqq-McCray, Yris Palmer, Natalie Halcro, Olivia Pierson and Nicole Williams English — felt more at ease knowing their friend was helping to shape the finished product.
“I think that made this situation more comfortable because I think every last one of us has been offered to lead a reality show before, but we never felt quite comfortable to do it,” Malika shared. “Khloé provided the perfect umbrella for us to feel safe and enjoy doing reality television in a space that should really be enjoyable when it’s a friend group. We don’t come without our flaws and difficult moments. But in the end, I think when we closed this out, we were like, ‘You know what, guys? We can stand behind what we did. We made a good show.’”
During the six-episode series, viewers watch the cast get to know one another on a deeper level. As a result, unexpected tensions, old wounds and clashing perspectives begin to surface.
Fortunately, Khloé was able to make sure things didn’t get too dramatic.
“I don’t think any of us knew how much she would film with us, which we loved because that is, you know, our reality,” Olivia, 36, told Us. “I just thought she’s so busy that she has her own show, her kids, her businesses. We were so pleased that she came and hung out with us and filmed with us. I think she really wants the reality of it, and that is it. She’s our friend, so that’s what we filmed. It was great to have her.”
Khloé isn’t the only family member who makes an appearance in the first season. Kylie Jenner also makes a cameo when she enjoys an evening out with the girls.
The moment was a special one for Yris, 36, who is still getting used to the world of reality TV after building her Star Lash Extensions beauty empire.
“Kylie’s one of my best friends. She’s one of the most supportive girls ever,” Yris told Us. “She’s a true girls’ girl, so she’s gonna support. She went out with us one night. … She is the girl. She’s a very supportive friend, so I love that we have their whole family supporting us.”
