Supriya Ganesh is finally speaking out on her exit from The Pitthours before the show’s season 2 finale.

During an interview with JoySauce on Thursday, April 16, Ganesh, 28, was asked where she saw her character, Dr. Samira Mohan, ending up in the future, to which she replied, “I hope [Samira] goes somewhere where she has an attending that thinks she’s fit to be in the ER.”

Ganesh suggested pairing Mohan up with Sepideh Moafi‘s character.

“Maybe if Dr. Al-Hashimi takes over,” she noted. “It’s been really interesting thinking about how different her experience of the ER might have been if she had a different attending.”

Earlier this season, Mohan found herself struggling with attending Dr. Robby’s (Noah Wyle) guidance.

“Robby is a character that’s very hot and cold with Samira a lot. There’s a push and pull quite often with them,” Ganesh exclusively told Us Weekly in March. “So I don’t think she’s surprised, but I don’t think she’s realized how much of it is projection — and how much of it is an internal thing — until later in the season.”

She added: “He says something that makes her go, ‘That’s such an insane thing to say.’ I think that’s the moment where it clicks for her that he’s just been taking something else that has nothing to do with her out on her. It’s definitely something she’s not surprised by, but I think she’s surprised by how it suddenly makes sense to her by the end of the day.”

News broke one month later that Mohan would be written off after the season 2 finale. It was reported at the time that Ganesh’s departure as Mohan was a “story-driven” choice since the show is set in a teaching hospital.

Ganesh is not the first cast member whose exit caused backlash among viewers. Tracy Ifeachor confirmed her exit in July 2025, with a source telling Us that month that it was always the plan for her character — who was a fourth-year resident in the first season — to move on with her career.

Wyle, 54, for his part, broke his silence on Ganesh’s exit — and the subsequent backlash — earlier this month..

“It’s an inevitability that’s going to happen every season with this show, because as writers we’re hard-pressed to figure out what a lapse of time we can have and keep most of the ensemble together realistically,” he told Variety at PaleyFest’s screening of The Pitt on Sunday, April 12.

Wyle pointed out that the decision to write out Ganesh’s character wasn’t personal.

“Emergency rooms have a high revolving door. As always, we try to bring in new characters or promote from within as we go through these cast changes and try to keep the story lines fresh, but obviously Supriya has been a huge part of our show since the beginning,” he continued. “Dr. Mohan is a beloved character, and I love playing with her and working with Supriya, and we wish her all the best in her next endeavors, and we’re going to miss her.”

The season 2 finale of The Pitt premieres on HBO Max Thursday at 9 p.m. ET.
