Get Hulk angry! It was obvious based on the film’s promotion that Tom Hiddleston’s Loki wouldn’t be a main star of Avengers: Age of Ultron. But his complete exclusion has left Marvel fans scratching their heads. Director Joss Whedon revealed that the meme-generating British star would not be making an appearance in the action flick during an interview with MTV this week.
“We did shoot something, but it didn’t play [out]. The movie has so much. It’s so filled. We didn’t want it to feel overstuffed,” he said in a video, published on Friday, May 1. “I really wanted to have Loki in it, but I understood the decision that there were now too many voices in the chorus.”
He added, with a laugh: “At some point the embarrassment of riches is actually embarrassing.”
Hiddleston’s evil and mischievous Loki (in all his green glory!) may not battle it out with Thor this time around, but he will come to blows once more in 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok. Hiddleston previously suited up in Thor (2011), The Avengers (2012), and Thor: The Dark World (2013).
Avengers: Age of Ultron is now in theaters. The action-packed sci-fi stars Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Chris Evans (Captain America), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), and Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye).
