Vin Diesel announced during CinemaCon on Thursday, April 23, that a Fast and Furious 8 is in the works

It’s official! Universal Studios is currently working on Fast and Furious 8. Its star Vin Diesel made the announcement himself during CinemaCon on Thursday, April 23.

“We’re gonna make the best movie you’ve ever seen,” Diesel, 47, told the audience. As for its release date? The movie, which is sure to have plenty of action-packed car chases and crime drama, will hit theaters on April 14, 2017.

The studio has yet to confirm which stars will join Diesel on the next adventure, but it was revealed where Dominic Toretto is headed to next. A new movie poster features Dom and New York City’s Empire State Building. “FF8,” it reads. “New City Even Vengeance.”

Earlier this month, the franchise’s seventh installment, Furious 7, broke records when it hit the $1 billion mark at the international box office. The film gave an emotional and touching tribute to the late Paul Walker, who tragically died at age 40 in November 2013 while the movie was still in production.
