Chicago P.D. season 13 ended with one Intelligence Unit member almost dying — and while the team did make it out alive, the same might not hold true next season.

During the finale, which aired in March, Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) discovered that Eva Imani’s (Arienne Mandi) long-lost sister, Shari (Selin Cuhadaroglu), killed a woman while working for her kidnapper. He told only Imani about the discovery, which will be something both cops have to deal with come season 14.

“We’ll definitely answer it next season of what they decide to do,” showrunner Gwen Sigan exclusively told Us Weekly after the episode. “I love that nobody else really has all the information right now. It’s just these two. They’re sort of at this desolate location making this decision.”

In addition to the murder dilemma story line, Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) is preparing to become a father — but that journey might be short-lived as Deadline reported in July that Hawkins is exiting the show early in season 14.

Scroll down to see which cast members are — and aren’t — coming back for season 14:

Beghe’s Hank Voight is the head of the Intelligence Unit and an original cast member, who is expected to return for season 14.

The P.D. showrunner previously told Us that Voight’s decision to keep the truth about Imani’s (Mandi) sister being a murderer will come back around next season.

Marina Squerciati

Squerciati’s Kim Burgess was upgraded to detective during season 12, but has yet to really flex her skills in the position. Season 14, however, could be her time to shine as the actress will seemingly be back alongside her TV husband, Adam Ruzek (Patrick Flueger).

LaRoyce Hawkins

Hawkins was one of the five remaining original stars going into season 14, having played Kevin Atwater since season 1. However, news broke on July 2 that he will be exiting the show — at least as a series regular — sometime during season 14.

Deadline reported that Hawkins will “wrap up” his character’s story line “in the first two or three episodes.”

Fellow OG star Flueger, who plays Adam Ruzek, is expected to return for the all-new season.

During season 13, Ruzek lost his dad, forgot his memories and moved from his childhood home with wife, Burgess (Squerciati), and their daughter Mikyala, so fans are hoping his next season will be less tumultuous.

Amy Morton

Morton’s Trudy Platt isn’t part of Intelligence but she holds down the fort at the front desk of the police station and the team would be lost without her.

The OG actress will seemingly be back for more next season — and continue to cross over to Chicago Fire, where fans have gotten to know her TV husband, Randall “Mouch” McHolland (Christian Stolte), for years.

Benjamin Levy Aguilar

Aguilar joined P.D. in 2019 during season 7 as Dante Torres. His story appears to only be getting started, so fans can remain hopeful that he’ll return in the fall.

Arienne Mandi

Mandi is the newest addition to P.D., joining the series during season 13 in 2025 as Eva Imani. The season 13 finale’s story line surrounding Imani and her sister, Shari (Cuhadaroglu), being reunited after decades apart is proof that Mandi’s character isn’t going anywhere.

“Who is she now that he’s gone and now that her sister is a grown woman too? Who are they [now]?” Sigan told Us in May of Shari and Imani’s dynamic moving forward. “I think it’s a really interesting question, and something that certainly we have a lot of room to explore.”

Karen Obilom

Obilom’s Tasha Fox was introduced as a recurring guest star during season 13, sparking a romance with Atwater (Hawkins). After leaving Chicago for Florida, she returned during episode 11, revealing that she is pregnant with Atwater’s baby. The pair agreed to stay in Chicago together and date as they prepared for parenthood later in the season.

With Hawkins’ exiting the series during season 14, it’s unlikely that Obilom will remain on the show without him.

Jesse Lee Soffer

Soffer portrayed Jay Halstead on P.D. from 2014 to 2022. He reprised his role during season 13 for the three-part One Chicago crossover special. The intense episodes ended with Halstead and ex-wife Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) agreeing to get a drink together, hinting their romance might not be done for good.

As for whether Soffer will be back on the NBC series as Halstead, he teased it could happen. “If there was ever a last episode of P.D. Halstead has got to be in it,” the actor exclusively told Us in March, noting that the show is “in my bones.”

Spiridakos portrayed Hailey Upton from 2017 to 2024, before exiting the show. Fans got to see her again during season 13 as part of the three-part One Chicago crossover special alongside Halstead (Soffer).

After the TV event, Spiridakos exclusively told Us in March that both she and Soffer “would love to come back and play.” However, her next appearance has not been confirmed.

Chicago P.D. will return on NBC Wednesdays at 10 p.m. this fall.
