Travis Barker explained why Kourtney Kardashian’s past miscarriage was a topic in his new documentary instead of on her reality show.
“When there’s things that can benefit people or help people relate to something, I think that’s always like a green light, especially — [Kourtney’s] always trying to do something like that,” Barker, 50, explained on The New York Times’ “Popcast” podcast.
Barker said he wanted to use his documentary, Travis Barker: Louder Than Fear, as a way to connect with his fans, adding, “Our journey of miscarriages and then IVF and it’s failed, resulting in us having a baby naturally — like, I feel like that’s a story that so many people can relate [to].”
When asked why the couple didn’t share their experience on The Kardashians, the drummer noted that the interview style of his documentary made it easier for them to open up about the loss.
“The way the documentary happens is through a series of interviews,” Barker continued. “I’ll say something, and then they’re like, ‘Oh, well tell me more about that.’ And that’s how that came up.”
In Travis Barker: Louder Than Fear, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in June, Kardashian and Barker reflected on the struggles they faced while trying to expand their family.
They revealed that Kardashian got pregnant six months after they started dating in 2021. They were expecting a girl — who they were going to name Tulip — before Kardashian learned during a doctor’s appointment at the three-month mark that their baby no longer had a heartbeat.
“When we lost the baby, we were devastated,” Kardashian said in the documentary, which premieres on Hulu August 13. “We cried for days.”
The reality star recalled the pair’s continued efforts to conceive, which included five IVF attempts in eight months. They ultimately decided to press pause on the process before their son, Rocky, was conceived naturally.
Kardashian and Barker welcomed their son in November 2023. The reality star also shares kids Mason, 16, Penelope, 13, and Reign, 11, with ex Scott Disick. Barker, meanwhile, shares two kids, son Landon, 22, and daughter Alabama, 20, with ex-wife Shanna Moakler. He is also a father figure to Moakler’s daughter Atiana, 27, whom she welcomed with Oscar De La Hoya.
