YouTube families are pulling back the curtain on their finances in the new docuseries Born to Be Viral: The Real Lives of Kidfluencers.
The Hulu series, released on Tuesday, July 8, followed vloggers — and their children — for six straight years. Ami and Justin McClure, for their part, rose to online fame by creating content with twin daughters Ava and Alexis, 13, and their younger son, for their Mighty McClure channel.
The OG channel has amassed more than 4.16 million followers on YouTube, while Ava and Alexis’ spinoff — The McClure Twins — has surpassed that figure with a whopping 4.5 million subscribers.
In the second episode of the series, Ami shared that their family could generate “up to $150,000 in one month” thanks to various brand deals and YouTube advertisement earnings. Years later, Ava and Alexis shared that they received a brand deal from Nike for about $125,000.
Kyler and Madison Fisher — the parents behind the Fishfam YouTube channel — opted out of sharing any specifics regarding their income, but painted another picture as to how much cash they are racking up.
“There are some days where we could pay for an entire college career in one day,” Kyler said in the first episode, released via Hulu on Tuesday, July 8. “The sky’s the limit in this business.”
Kyler and Madison launched their channel in 2016, centering content around their five children: twin daughters Taytum and Oakley, 9, daughter Halston, 6, and sons Oliver, 4, and Cohen, 3. The family has more than 4.76 million followers keeping tabs on them just on YouTube.
“There are some days where we’re able to make as much money or more than 90 percent of the people in this world make in one day of work,” he said in episode five. “So how could you ever complain?”
After the series was released on Hulu, Ami defended the family’s decision to share their children’s lives on social media while assuring fans her kids still “continue to have fun” creating content.
“Our kids love it. We’re having a lot of fun all the time, and I don’t mind sharing little bits of who we are,” she said during a Tuesday appearance on Good Morning America. “People think they see everything, but they really don’t. [Just] a little, little portion of who we are.”
