After J.D. and Elliot’s shocking split in the Scrubs revival, Zach Braff and Sarah Chalke teased their upcoming chemistry with new love interests — Rachel Bilson and Scott Foley.
“They’re so funny,” Braff, 51, exclusively told Us during a joint interview with Chalke, 50, and Donald Faison about the ABC series. “Scott, we just love him. He’s such a funny foil for J.D. I love being around Scott as a person and an actor.”
Braff praised what Foley, 54, brought to season 2 after previously appearing in the OG show.
“He’s just so fun. He just adds so much to the show,” he continued. “I wish he was in every episode.”
The actor had the same experience with Bilson, 45, who plays his onscreen girlfriend, saying, “Rachel is just incredible. We did a movie together in 2006 called The Last Kiss and we have just been such buddies ever since.”
Braff added: “She’s beautiful. She’s funny. She’s just so additive for the show. So we’ve all been having a lot of fun doing scenes with both of them.”
Chalke, for her part, had a similar experience.
“They both bring so much. We were doing a scene — the five of us around a dinner table — and Zach’s like, ‘This would be such a fun dinner,'” she recalled. “We all have so much fun together. They both just get the tone of the show so well and add so much. So we were really super lucky to have them.”
J.D. (Braff) and Elliot (Chalke) will find love again after the season 1 premiere, which aired in February, revealed that they are no longer married to each other. The fictional couple originally found a romantic spark on the medical sitcom and ended the series together.
Scrubs, which originally aired from 2001 to 2010, followed the lives of employees at the fictional teaching hospital Sacred Heart Hospital. The hit series starred Braff, Chalke, Faison, 52, Judy Reyes, Neil Flynn, Ken Jenkins and John C. McGinley.
Many of the cast returned for the revival, which follows J.D. as he returns to Sacred Heart as its new Chief of Medicine. After playing fictional doctors for nearly a decade, Braff, Chalke and Faison spoke to Us about the medical knowledge they feel they gained from the show.
“I can pretend to be a doctor really well,” Faison, who plays Dr. Christopher Turk, joked. “Somebody will be talking to me about ailments [in real life] and I’m like, ‘Ah, that makes sense.’ And they completely think that I know what it is that I’m talking about — and I have no clue.”
He continued: “Some will try and pronounce the name of a medicine and because of my little bit of medical jargon training, sometimes I’m able to pull it out of my ass and say what it is that they’re talking about. So they’re like, ‘Oh, I forgot you play a doctor on TV.’ I’m sure some of it’s rubbed off. I can pretend to be a really good [doctor].”
Chalke, meanwhile, reflected on the new medical fears, telling Us, “You do all these medical storylines, and you’re like, ‘Oh, I didn’t even know that was on the table.’ That’s an option. Something can happen to you on the show then you get like a similar symptom a week later.”
Braff joked that both Chalke and Faison are “hypochondriacs” after their time on Scrubs. “So they think they have all the things that are in the script,” he quipped.
Scrubs returns to ABC Wednesday, September 30, at 8 p.m. ET and streams on Hulu the next day.
