Staying healthy and fit is hard work, but Candace Cameron Bure maintains her toned physique with a mix of diet, exercise and smart decisions. The Fuller House star, 42, talked to Us Weekly about what it takes to stay healthy, and even shared a recipe that helps keep her in tip-top shape.
“It’s really a choice that you have to make if your health is important to you. I feel like this is simple information, but you have to be prepared. I think that’s the number one tip,” Cameron Bure said of eating healthfully. “You don’t ever want to be caught being hungry and in a situation where you’re going to reach for that bad choice or go through that drive-thru and them be tempted to make an unhealthy choice. If you want to eat healthier foods, there are wonderful things out there that can help you, along with fresh vegetables and fresh fruits.”
In addition to fresh fruits and veggies, Cameron Bure, who has been a spokesperson for StarKist for more than a year, also relies on the company’s line of fish and now chicken pouches.
“If you want the convenience and you want it easy, and you can have it with you, something like the StarKist pouches are wonderful for that because you can keep it in your purse and then when you get hungry you’re not like, ‘Oh man, I’m just going to go through the drive-thru because I don’t have anything with me,’” she explains.
Aside from being good on-the-go, StarKist pouches can also be used to whip up easy meals or snacks at home, such as the chicken salad cucumber boat recipe below. “All of the chicken creations are wonderful right out of the pouch, which is how I eat them the majority of the time, but if I want a little extra crunch it’s fun to put it inside of a cucumber,” the former cohost of The View tells Us. “You can just scoop some of the meat of the cucumber out and put the chicken in there, or you can do it on celery also because that’s really firm. It’s just another texture that you can add to your food and get some vegetables in there.”
For Cameron Bure, this veggie-packed dish fits perfectly with her lifestyle. “That’s the majority of my diet,” she says. “The way I eat is I’m very vegetable-heavy, and so that’s just another way I get to eat my veggies and get my protein.”

Chicken Salad Cucumber Boats
Makes 2 servings
• 2, 2.5 oz pouches StarKist Chicken Creations Chicken Salad
• 1 English cucumber, cut in three sections and halved
• 1 tbsp small-dice red onions
- Scrape out the seeds from the inside of each cucumber half and place on a medium platter.
- Fill each cucumber with about two tablespoons of Chicken Creations Chicken Salad.
- Top with a sprinkle of red onions.
