Avocado toast’s time as one of the nation’s trendiest foods is officially over! Grubhub, the nation’s leading online and mobile food-ordering and delivery marketplace, released findings from its annual “Year in Food” report on Thursday, December 6, and the millennial favorite was nowhere to be seen.

According to the report, which was compiled using a combination of millions of food orders placed via Grubhub by more than 16 million diners and consumer surveys, bean burritos took the top spot as the food surging the most in popularity in 2018, rising 276 percent as compared to last year.

Continuing the trend of increased interest in plant-based foods, cauliflower rice bowls saw a 155 percent increase year over year, while buffalo cauliflower’s popularity increased by 124 percent in 2018. Avocado toast, on the other hand, didn’t even crack the top ten, which also featured poke, chicken sliders and chicken burritos.

Speaking of chicken, the trend report also confirmed that Americans can’t get enough of the lean meat. In fact, chicken-based dishes made up an impressive half of the top ten list, while previously popular red meat was completely MIA.

Generally speaking, this year’s trend report indicated that consumers are becoming increasingly health conscious. In addition to a preference toward plant-based foods and lean meat, the most popular breakfast foods of the year also proved people are serious about nutrition – peanut butter acai bowls and detox juice occupied the top two spots, rising 350 percent and 193 percent, respectively.

However, other less healthy breakfast options also proved popular in 2018, with bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches, breakfast burritos and french toast all rising more than 100 percent year over year.
