All hail the Mother of Dragons! Emilia Clarke celebrated her 32nd birthday on Tuesday, October 23, and the following day the Game of Thrones actress took to Instagram to share a photo of the epic GOT-themed cake she marked the special occasion with.
The intricate confection, which was topped with a massive dragon (what else?!) was a big hit with the birthday girl. “FULL DISCLOSURE: dragons are not for eating. Only for riding, and the occasional bbq,” she captioned a photo of her smiling widely in front of the creative cake. “However this chocolate cake explosion of love is..(that grin managed almost the whole thing) @lolafrears I love you with the fire of a thousand dragon panic attacks. (Carnage right?)”
Clarke then thanked the entire “Instaworld” for sending her kind wishes on her special day, adding, “I wanted to say a huge thank you to all you glorious wonder creatures who wished me a happy birthday! I felt like one very lucky chica to have been sent so much love… (and chocolate.)” She concluded the sweet post with a trio of humorous hashtags – “#thirtiesareforthecake #andtheeyebrowsfindingevengreaterheightsthaneverbefore #itmustbelove.”
A closer look at the cake indicates that the dragon resting on the elaborate dessert isn’t just any mythical creature, but rather an impressive replica of Khaleesi’s largest (and favorite) dragon, Drogon. You know, the one named after her late husband that she can summon with her mind and uses to fly?!
In addition to getting an out-of-this-world birthday cake, it also appears Clarke celebrated her birthday with a new love – American film director Charlie McDowell. About an hour after posting the cake photo, the actress shared another snapshot of two shadows embracing, presumably hers and his, in the sand. “Well that was a birthday I won’t be forgetting in a while,” she wrote alongside the photo before signing off with a heart emoji.
As many eagle-eyed fans soon noticed, McDowell shared the identical photo on his Instagram account, captioning it “Happy birthday, E.” and adding a heart emoji of his own. “What a blessed guy you are,” one user commented. “Take care of my queen!” McDowell is the son of actress Mary Steenburgen.
Game of Thrones will return for its eighth and final season in the first half of 2019.
