It’s official! Mondelez International, the maker of Oreo cookies, confirmed on Tuesday, April 2, that Game of Thrones Oreos will be released later this month in honor of the eighth and final season of the HBO drama, which premieres on Sunday, April 14.
Described via a press release as a “playful new take on the original cookie,” the GOT-themed pack features confections with four unique embossments spotlighting the Great Houses still battling for the Iron Throne and the enemy White Walkers beyond the wall.
Furthermore, fans can pledge their fealty for House Lannister, House Targaryen, House Stark or The Night King by visiting oreo.com and Oreo’s Facebook and Twitter – using #GameofCookies and #ForTheThrone. Oreo will surprise select fans throughout the season with a special treat for participating.
In celebration of the new cookie, Oreo and HBO even collaborated with Elastic – the creators of the Game of Thrones opening sequence – to conceive a cookie-themed version of the opening credits featuring an animated landscape built entirely out of 2,750 Oreos.
The official Oreo Twitter account previously hinted at the themed treat’s release on Saturday, February 23, sharing a 9-second clip with the caption “Cookies are coming.” The dark and foggy video then opens on the word “Oreo,” as the letters that make up the cookie’s moniker then become part of the larger phrase, “#ForTheThrone.”

At the time, a rep for Oreo confirmed to Us Weekly that the treats were in works, explaining, “For now all I can share is a confirmation that cookies are, in fact, coming.” The rep also added that there will be “much more to come” as the GOT premiere date approaches.
Us can now confirm Oreo Game of Thrones cookies will be available for a limited time starting on Monday, April 8. They will be available for purchase nationwide wherever Oreo cookies are sold, while supplies last.
A themed-Oreo is just the latest odd (but welcome) promotional push in honor of the series’ six-episode final season. The #ForTheThrone campaign has already blessed us with a show-themed makeup line from Urban Decay and a LOL-worthy commercial for Bud Light that first aired during the Super Bowl in February.
This is hardly the first time a Game of Thrones-inspired food has hit the market. The award-winning series has already spawned, among other things, a whisky collection from Johnnie Walker and a Mother of Dragons beer, which was released in September. Here’s hoping all of this food (and booze) will make the drama’s final season a bit easier to handle!
