Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen has figured out a way to relieve holiday travel stress – “emotional support chicken!” On Tuesday, December 18, the chain announced the debut of the limited-edition menu item, which is modeled after the emotional support animals that have become increasingly popular air travel companions.

In Popeyes’ case, this means that travelers passing through Philadelphia International Airport can now purchase a 3-piece chicken tenders combo, which is served in its own “emotional support chicken” carrier, at the chain’s outpost in Terminal C to bring with them on their flight. It is available while supplies last.

Seeing as how emotional support animals provide comfort and companionship, especially during a highly stressful time like air travel, Popeyes wanted to get in on the action, especially considering travelers have boarded planes with support peacocks, squirrels and tarantulas.

The Louisiana-based company describes the “emotional support chicken” as its own version of “emotional support animals pushing the envelope.” The gesture is designed to bring holiday travelers some needed humor to what is one of the most stressful places to be during the holidays – the airport.

“We know holiday travel can be frustrating, and there’s no better way to ease stress than with a box of delicious Popeyes fried chicken and a good laugh,” said Hope Diaz, CMO of Popeyes, via a press release. “We appreciate how comforting emotional support animals are and wanted to create our own version. The good news is that our emotional support chicken is permitted to fly without any restrictions – one less worry for busy travelers!”
