Ashlyn Harris was all smiles as she posed on the red carpet with her girlfriend, Sophia Bush, and the soccer star’s two children.
Harris, 40, and Bush, 44, made an appearance with the athlete’s 5-year-old daughter, Sloane, and 3-year-old son, Ocean, both of whom she adopted with her ex-wife, fellow soccer player Ali Krieger, at the A Sense of Home Inaugural New York City Gala on Wednesday, September 23.
Harris and Bush were honored at the gala, which raised money to prevent homelessness for youth aging out of foster care.
“Someone believed in us,” Harris said during the couple’s joint speech. “Someone opened a door for us. Someone gave us somewhere where we felt safe enough to dream.”
Harris filed for divorce from Krieger, 41, in September 2023 after nearly four years of marriage. Their divorce was finalized in January 2025. The former Team USA goalie started dating Bush in October 2023.
In an exclusive interview with Us earlier this year, Harris said all parties involved are doing their best to figure out “coparenting.” (Krieger has been dating Scottish soccer player Jen Beattie since November 2024.)
“She’s the mother of my children,” Harris said of Krieger. “I respect her as a mom, I respect her as a player, I respect what she’s done for the game. I don’t ever want to speak poorly about the mother of my children.”
She continued, “When all of this news was going crazy, it was really important for me to be intentional that I was a good human during a really hard season that became very public. I never wanted to speak ill about the mother of my children in front of them, with other friends. It was really important to me.”
“I respect her and I’m proud of what we did,” Harris added. “I don’t resent or regret anything about the life that I built with her; it just wasn’t for me.”
Harris reflected on the dissolution of her marriage to Krieger, telling Us, “You try and you try and you try and you keep trying to make it work and you don’t want to fail.”
“You don’t want to give up,” she said. “But also, life is really short and really long at the same time. I get one shot at this. There’s no second act. If I’m feeling this way in my 30s and I’m so unhappy that I don’t want to get out of bed, am I really serving her and my children and my friends and myself?”
Harris added, “I had to make a really hard decision. I know I hurt her in that process.”
