It’s been a rough week for golfer Scottie Scheffler.

One day after commenting about his receding hairline, Scheffler, 30, missed the cut at a tournament for the first time in four years, failing to advance in the Genesis Scottish Open on Friday, July 10.

That snapped a streak of 78 events and 1,428 days. To put it in perspective, the golfer who now holds the longest streak of making the cut is Matt Fitzpatrick, who has done it only 28 times in a row.

Scheffler’s lackluster play just two weeks after his 30th birthday naturally begged questions about his age, which the golfer opened up about to reporters on Thursday, July 9.

“I still feel young. Then I look in the mirror, and I’m like, man, I’m getting old,” he said. “Turning 30, now we are in the midst of the season, so I haven’t had much time to sit around.

He continued, ”I feel old sometimes. I feel young. My hair has been receding for years, so 30 is not going to have any effect on that. Yeah, I don’t have a good answer. Wish I had something better. Blame it on the jet lag.”

This isn’t the first time Scheffler’s hair — or lack thereof — has been in the news. Last July, golf equipment company TaylorMade, which sponsors Scheffler, took heat on social media for appearing to photoshop hair on his head in an Instagram post.

“This would be enough for me to leave TM,” one fan wrote in the comments. “So f***ed up to change how the best player in the world looks? Be shallower. Can’t.”

Another wrote, “I actually had to come see it for myself. Yikes. It’s not even a good edit I don’t get why do this 🤷🏻‍♂️.”

On Friday, however, Scheffler stayed focused on his play. Despite missing the cut, he has had a strong 2026 and is currently the No. 1 ranked male golfer in the world. In 14 events this year, he has finished in the top 25 in every one, picking up one win, four runner-up finishes and three third-place finishes.

“I’m definitely proud of the consistency,” he told reporters. “And wish I had a couple days over the weekend to make up some ground.”

He added, “It’s a little different now with some of the signature events not having cuts. But you know, this is — I don’t think I finished outside of the top 20 or something like that many times this year.”
