Simone Biles is still deciding whether to return to the Olympics stage during the 2028 Summer Games.
“I feel like we’re still at a 50-50,” Biles, 29, told CNN in a Wednesday, April 29, interview. “We’re still on a time crunch here. [It’s been] almost half of 2026, so we’re going to have to make these decisions pretty quickly.”
Biles took home four medals during the 2024 Olympics in Paris, including golds in the team event, all-around and vault, as well as a silver for floor exercise. The competition was the gymnast’s big comeback after she withdrew during the 2021 event.
Biles is now carefully weighing whether to begin training for the Los Angeles competition.
“I think mental health plays a big role in it,” she acknowledged. “Physically, my coaches will get me in shape [and] I will get myself in shape. We believe in that ability. We’re really thankful that I’m still healthy, but mental is a huge thing.”
Biles continued, “It’s a lot of dedication on that because the road’s not easy. It’s long, but it’s still work.”
Biles left the 2021 Olympics early after suffering the “twisties,” which she said occurred when the brain and body are “at a disconnect.”
“It’s just like your body, your brain opens up, you have no idea where you are,” Biles said on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast in 2024. “So, I open-landed like that and as soon as I land, I kind of grin and I’m like, ‘S***.’ I salute, and I want to run. If I could’ve gotten on a plane and flown home, I would’ve done it.”
She added at the time, “I go to tell my coach and I said, ‘I’m done. I’m not doing any more. Because if I survive that, I don’t know how much else I can survive.’ I always say I’m a cat with nine lives, but I [thought], ‘That was my ninth, I’m done.’”
After reprioritizing her mental health and taking a step back from the mat, Biles returned to the Games in 2024.
Regardless of whether or not she’ll attempt to defend her golds in L.A., Biles will be supporting the other gymnasts.
“It is truly a sisterhood, and we’ve been training together, like me and Jordan [Chiles] have known each other since I was 14 and she was like 11,” Biles exclusively told Us Weekly in September 2024. “That’s not the case when we’re out there. It’s not catty. We’re not bratty towards one another. We truly want everybody to do their best.”
