Dusting is no longer a chore! Celebs such as Chrissy Teigen, Khloé Kardashian and Rachel McAdams have taken to wearing full-length jackets for just about any occasion. And it’s no wonder: The lightweight, buttonless piece (first worn in the 1920s when traveling in an open car) pairs effortlessly with almost every ensemble.
The modern-day duster coat comes in multiple styles — belted, buttoned, short, long — making it appropriate in nearly every situation, from casual to formal. Scroll down for three A-lister–approved tips that prove dusters are here to stay.
Dressy or Casual
McAdams, 37, demonstrated that the flowy design is red carpet ready in her silk House of CB number at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival on February 5. She paired the pink robe with a sexy, see-through Jonathan Simkhai frock that gave the look an elegant edge.
But designs like these aren’t just meant for the step and repeat. Kate Upton rocked a neutral gray style at the airport. She threw her houndstooth Topshop duster over a white blouse and burgundy slacks while at LAX on February 1.
Silky or Structured
Though thin fabrics like silk offer a little extra breathing room, they’re not the only way to go. Teigen, 30, sported an updated version of the jean jacket while prepping for Super Bowl 50 on February 7, which she wore with a tight white dress.
Still, when you don’t want to worry about holding up a pashmina and your trench feels too heavy, opt for a lightweight style, like Louise Roe, who modeled a teal silk design at a shopping event in West Hollywood on November 16 of last year.
Short or Long
Beneath the duster, any length goes. Hailey Baldwin’s mini put her long legs on display beneath her Forever 21 open-front trench on January 13. But Khloé Kardashian, 31, went the completely opposite direction, shielding her stems in a white, wide-leg jumpsuit beneath her tan House of CB Coryn duster.
