Who doesn’t want to be like Jessica Chastain? Anne Hathaway spoke to Us Weekly at the NYC premiere of Song One on Tuesday, Jan. 20, revealing that her red carpet resolution for the New Year is to be more like her fellow Oscar nominee.
Hathaway stormed the awards show circuit in 2013, when she was nominated (and ultimately took home an Oscar) for her role in Les Miserables. She returned to the Academy Awards in 2014 to present, but 2015 has been entirely different so far.
“My beauty routine for this red carpet season is wearing sweatpants on the couch,” the actress, 32, joked to Us at the screening hosted by The Cinema Society and Tod’s.
Normally, the upkeep is the most work before a big red carpet event. “You’ve got to do the maintenance,” she told Us, revealing that she used to bend over backwards to primp, polish, and stay skinny. Chastain, 37, however, had a profound influence on Hathaway’s newfound attitude.
“In 2013, Jessica Chastain and I were both nominated together,” Hathaway recalled of her future Interstellar costar. “I remember we were both at a luncheon before it started, and I was sitting next to her and I asked her: ‘So what’s the first thing you’re gonna eat Monday?’ And she said, ‘What do you mean?'”
“I said, ‘Monday when we can eat again — what’s the first thing you’re going to eat?'” Hathaway continued of their conversation. “And she goes, ‘Oh, yeah. I don’t do that!'”
That conversation, apparently, left a lasting impact on the Princess Diaries actress. “So, my beauty routine is to be more like Jessica Chastain,” she told Us. “She doesn’t worry about it. She just shows up, and is who she is, so my New Year’s Resolution is to be more like Jessica Chastain.”
