Watch All the Glamour and Girl Power Backstage at Charlize Theron’s Dior J’Adore Absolu Campaign

Charlize Theron

Charlize Theron has long lent her famous face to the iconic Dior J’Adore fragrance campaigns, and now she’s reprising her role for the brand’s latest addition to the J’Adore family: J’Adore Absolu. Offering a fruitier take on the OG floral, the Academy Award-winner stars in the new scent’s print and video ads, and we’ve got a behind the scenes look at the girl-power shoot.

Shot by director Romain Gavras, the one-minute film is set at a Turkish-inspired bath house, where Theron is surrounded by a legion of strong women. As is the J’Adore custom, everything is dripping in gold, and the large space is made to feel intimate and inclusive.

In a backstage video from the towering set, Theron talks about how proud she is to be a part of a campaign that shows women supporting each other. “It’s a really great time to be a woman right now. This movement that we’re all in is changing the world,” she shares. “There is something about the essence of what we did here that felt very unified and like a real come together of femininity and women kind of standing together and being very powerful.”

But that’s not say there aren’t plenty of gorgeous gowns and beautiful vistas to soak in as well. Theron is a golden goddess in a bespoke sequin number with a plunging neckline and sheer skirt, and her fellow J’Adore women are similarly clad in various takes on the sparkling design. In a BTS clip showing the making of the stunning style, it’s hard to believe someone personally embroidered the thousands of sequins by hand.

And when it come to the new J’Adore Absolu scent, perfumer Francois Demachy was inspired by the original jasmine juice, which has long incorporated all the facets of the flower — from its bold blackcurrant-like notes when it is first picked to the more sensual apricot aroma it takes on during harvest — albeit with a new spin.

The latest fragrance adds rose, orange, magnolia and an aquatic floral note for a strong yet fresh effect. The classic gold-wrapped long-neck flacon, meanwhile, gets a subtle update courtesy of foil leafing on the cap.
