Reason to celebrate! Looking especially radiant, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie hit the 15th Annual AFI Awards on Friday, Jan. 9, grinning as they arrived at the awards show, where they both had films honored.
Pitt, 51, found his way onto AFI’s Movies of the Year list with the critically acclaimed civil rights film Selma. He served as an executive producer for the drama, which features rising star David Oyelowo as Martin Luther King, Jr. Pitt went casual for the awards, wearing a loose T-shirt with a blazer, dark jeans, and a trendy hat.
Jolie, 39, was also honored at the event for her sophomore directorial effort Unbroken, and echoed her husband’s dark palette in a Saint Laurent black blazer with black skinny pants, a white collared shirt, and black heels. She led the big-screen adaptation of the harrowing true story of Louis Zamperini after previously helming 2011’s In the Land of Blood and Honey.
The stars appeared at the AFI Awards after news broke on Friday that they secretly married before their long-awaited wedding in France this past August. “Before the wedding in France with the kids, Brad and I were already married in California,” Jolie revealed to Italian magazine Io Donna. “As Americans, we couldn’t marry legally in France… One day I said to Brad, ‘Let’s meet up at 4:30 pm?’ I called a justice of the peace and we signed the documents.”
In addition to Jolie and Pitt’s offerings, AFI’s Movies of the Year list was rounded out by American Sniper, Birdman, Boyhood, Foxcatcher, The Imitation Game, Interstellar, Into the Woods, Nightcrawler, and Whiplash.
The married couple attended the swanky affair at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills, alongside stars like Rene Russo, Oprah Winfrey, Jessica Chastain, and Matthew McConaughey.
At the celebratory get-together, Pitt and Jolie caught up with Hollywood legend Clint Eastwood, and were seen chatting with rapper Common. The “Testify” performer worked with John Legend to record the track “Glory” for the soundtrack to Selma.
