For the singer, the key to achieving great style is by having fun. “You wear the clothes. Clothes don’t wear you,” she told Us Weekly at Accessories Council’s ACE Awards in New York City on Monday, June 10. “It’s a great way for you to express yourself and you can communicate with fashion. I think you just have to have fun with it. Don’t overthink the process. Think long, thing wrong.”
So when it comes to playing dress up with her hunky hubby, the former dancer also makes sure to play around with different trends, as well as color coordinating to avoid clashing at events. “We say, ‘I’m wearing this. I’m feeling like this,’” she explained. “And then we find a way to match each other.”
Ultimately, the model and the Seattle Seahawks quarterback, 30, like to “just have a good time” and again, not overthink their outfits.
And she certainly has her children to thank for her great red carpet choices, too. (Ciara co-parents son Future, 5, with ex Future and shares daughter Sienna, 2, with Wilson.) “It’s helped me to get better with fashion,” the 33-year-old noted. “I go with my gut … which is like going with what feels good to me. I think they made me better actually.”
While her style has evolved over the years, Ciara has always been a pro at dressing up and down in any situation. One of her key tips? “I think there is something cool about when a girl can have the feminine within a tough look,” she previously told Us. “Sometimes simplicity is a statement. Less is more. So, when you cannot try too hard and be fly? That’s when it’s dope to me.”
