Made to Measure, Endeavor’s premium fashion network has released a teaser for the fourth episode of the original series Face to Grace, hosted by former Vogue Creative Director Grace Coddington. The latest episode features a conversation between longtime friends Coddington and Suspiria and Call Me By Your Name director Luca Guadagnino.
During the episode, the duo sit own for an intimate conversation about the director’s process, his filmography and even how fashion has influenced his work.
In an exclusive clip from the interview, Guadagnino talks about the process of creating a horror film like Suspiria and the intricacies of creating something disturbing but beautiful. “Why do we look at horror? Why do we show it? I believe it is the responsibility of the director to answer these questions, and decide how they show to something.” How can we find a way that the violence displayed is unwatchable, but the beauty of the dance is so desirable so that you are torn between wanting to see and not wanting to see. That’s what horror offers you,” he tells the fashion icon.
As far as his inspiration, he also reveals to Coddington in the clip that Commes des Garcons designer Rei Kawakubo remains a huge influence for him visually. “Think of the incredible and almost violent collections of Ms. Kawakubo [of Comme des Garcons]. Those were very difficult to watch collections that engage the viewer and wearer in uncompromising space. And she does that on purpose. And that approach is something I really admire,” says the director.
