Gigi Hadid is all about supporting her fellow Victoria’s Secret Angels.
“Elsa [Hosk] slayed this,” Hadid, 31, wrote via Threads on Tuesday, October 20, clapping back at criticism of Hosk’s appearance in the runway show. “I’m the biggest fan of the OG Angels, but even the scale & size of this runway is not comparable to the OG shows.”
Hadid and Hosk, 37, both strutted down the Victoria’s Secret catwalk during the Sunday, October 18, event. Hosk’s appearance, however, raised eyebrows from fans who thought she awkwardly maneuvered her massive wings with flowing gold fabric.
“It’s a looong walk in the wings these days ++ [the wings] can be 75+lbs, 10+ ft tall, sometimes animatronic, etc,” Hadid explained. “The wings are getting bigger [because] the viewers love it & they’re MAJOR but NOT aero dynamic, then add the gust of runway fans!! It takes three men to take these wings off of us.”
She concluded, “Elsa is stunning, strong, and carried these like a boss. Y’all have no clue.”
Hosk, who made her Victoria’s Secret debut in 2011 and wore the Fantasy Bra in 2018, had the biggest wings on Sunday.
“There’s a full metal structure underneath it that was welded together and then they put individual feathers of fabric,” Adam Selman, the Chief Creative Officer at Victoria’s Secret & Co, told InStyle in a behind-the-scenes featurette. “There’s a stitched metal piece like in it, it actually keeps a structure and then, whenever the wind catches it, you don’t lose it because of that metal piece. Whenever she walks, it really takes up a lot of space, but it’s also ethereal and beautiful.”
Hosk has paid no intention to the critics, instead remaining grateful for her time on Victoria’s Secret runway itself.
“Nine shows later and somehow the butterflies never go away 🦋,” she wrote via Instagram on Tuesday. “Feeling incredibly lucky to be back alongside all the incredible angels on the @victoriassecret runway, a place that holds so many special memories for me. Two babies later, walking with these incredible wings — a little reminder that we only get stronger with time, that motherhood adds to who we are, and that age has never been the limit.”
Hosk, who gave birth to baby No. 2 in July, further thanked Selman and the Victoria’s Secret for “trusting me with such a magical moment.”
“Never taking any of it for granted,” Hosk noted. “Forever grateful to be a little part of this dream 🤍.”
