And that's that! After independent distributor Patrick Couderc offended nearly everyone when he told The Mail on Sunday that "voluptuous" women and "committed lesbians" should not wear Herve Leger's famed body-conscious bandage dresses, the celeb-loved brand has released a statement saying that he's no longer with the company.
"The Herve Leger by Max Azria brand and its parent company, BCBGMAXAZRIA Group, are shocked and appalled by Patrick Couderc's comments made in The Mail on Sunday," the label shared with Us Weekly in a statement. "The statements made by Mr. Couderc are not a reflection of Herve Leger by Max Azria or MJH Fashion ideals or sentiments. The Herve Leger by Max Azria brand celebrates sensuality, glamour, and femininity without discrimination."
It was a swift move from the fashion house, which has been the subject of intense scrutiny since Couderc's crude statements first appeared in The Mail this past weekend. "If you're a committed lesbian and you are wearing trousers all your life, you won't want to buy a Leger dress. Lesbians would want to be rather butch and leisurely," was just one in a list of offensive comments the London-based exec shared.
Soon after, comedian Margaret Cho took to Twitter to urge buyers to boycott the label. "I remember being in a shop in the 90s called 'horn' and a dress being PULLED from my hands – they said THAT'S TOO SMALL YOU'LL RIP IT #f—ku," she wrote. "F—k fashion and 'designers' that body shame @HerveLeger #wecanwearwhateverthefuckwewant #boycottherveleger."
The next day, Herve Leger tweeted its horror, too: "Outraged and appalled by Mr. Couderc's offensive comments. Herve Leger celebrates sensuality, glamour & femininity without discrimination." Less than 24 hours later, the brand worn by the likes of Kim Kardashian, Caitlyn Jenner, Hayden Panettiere, and more announced its decision to officially let Couderc go from the company.
