It was the chop seen round the world: Jennifer Aniston made headlines on Tuesday when she debuted a chin-length new bob while promoting Just Go With It in Madrid, Spain.

According to the 42-year-old actress' longtime hair guru Chris McMillan, "it was just time for a change."

"We had a blast doing it, and we've always liked this haircut," McMillan tells Allure. "It's about keeping things simple."

One look Aniston wanted to avoid? Looking like a cast member from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

"They all have that natural, piecey hair. It's nice to take the extensions out of the hair and do something more natural. It's gotten out of hand," McMillan says. "But I can't stop watching it."

According to McMillan, Aniston's "chic" and "simple" 'do was inspired by Vidal Sassoon haircuts and Julie Christie in Shampoo. "I call it a hairline bob that follows the jawline down," he explains. "It's shortened in back and longer in front."

Though Aniston's locks appear lighter, McMillan says he didn't actually change up the actress' color.

"It's so funny. This is something that happens all the time: Whenever I cut someone's hair, they say, 'My color looks so much better,'" he says. "The color kind of freshens up when you get a drastic haircut."

Aniston's new look is slightly reminiscent of "The Rachel," the Friends-era haircut that propelled her to '90s superstardom.

"How do I say this? I think it was the ugliest haircut I've ever seen," Aniston told Allure in February. "What I really want to know is, how did that thing have legs?"
