No longer just for the cheerleading set, Khloe Kardashian attended the launch of the Cardi B x Fashion Nova collection in L.A. on Wednesday, November 14, rocking a sky-high ponytail by her go-to mane woman Justine Marjan that is all kinds of night-out hair inspo. The celebrity hairstylist broke down exactly how to recreate the I Dream of Jeannie-inspired ‘do on her Instagram Stories, and you better believe we’re taking notes on her genius secret to the gravity-defying style.

To keep the pony and sleek and chic, Marjan started by flat ironing the reality star’s roots with her ghd Platinum Plus Styler. But the following steps are where the real magic happened. In order to create a super perky ponytail while still maintaining volume, the hair pro actually layered two separate ponytails that gave the illusion of being one.

First, she gathered the top half of the hair (smoothing the roots with a brush coated in the TRESemme Micro Mist Hairspray in Extend to tame fly aways). She then repeated the same process on the remaining strands, securing the bottom tresses with another elastic beneath the top one. The effect is a super bouncy pony that gets all kinds of height without sacrificing body or fullness. Talk about brilliant.

Marjan further slicked back the hairline and roots with a bit of the Ouai Matte Pomade on a toothbrush, and, to create those tousled waves, she wrapped loose sections around the ghd Curve Classic Curl Iron. She finished things off by teasing the top of the pony for extra lift, hiding the hair ties with a fews strands and setting it all with the Fatboy Spray Putty.

Et voila! A Kardashian-approved fun and flirty ponytail that works for any occasion.
