Well, that answers that! Kim Kardashian's elegant look at the 2014 Costume Institute Gala on Monday, May 5, had a lot of people talking—in part because it was different from what she had been wearing en route to the event with fiance Kanye West.

The reality star, 33, was originally photographed leaving the Lanvin store in New York City with a thick black belt around her waist and leather cuffs on her wrist. But when she stepped onto the red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art a little while later, both of those accessories had been scrapped. She had also switched out her shoes, replacing her minimalist sandals with a pair of black T-strap heels.

Fans were curious about what prompted the last-minute change, so Kardashian took to her blog to explain it on Tuesday, May 6. "Last night was an amazing time at the Met Gala. I was in love with my Lanvin strapless dress," she wrote of the midnight blue and black gown she wore in photographs. "Alber Elbaz helped Kanye and I get ready for the evening, which was a perfect fit because he also dressed us for the cover of Vogue."

"It was such a tough decision on how to accessorize," she continued. "I left the store with a chunky belt and leather cuffs. We were going back and forth for hours if the chunky belt was right. In the car on our way there we got a glimpse of the carpet, and I decided the accessories were a bit too 'rock 'n' roll' and I wanted to go for something more simple and elegant."

For that reason, she "switched to a clean black satin belt and strappy heels" before exiting the car. "To me it felt more classic and fit the Forties theme better," she explained. (The actual theme of the evening was Charles James: Beyond Fashion; James was a designer who reached the height of his popularity in the 1940s and '50s.)

An added bonus to the revamped styling? "Kanye also liked it better too," Kardashian wrote of her fiance, 36. "Overall I thought it was the right decision and I loved the way everything came together."
