While we know eye glitter and jewels are perfect for Coachella and music festival season, Lupita Nyong’o just made the bedazzled look red carpet-ready. The Black Panther star attended the Accessories Council’s 2018 ACE Awards on Monday, June 11, to present an award to her longtime stylist Micaela Erlanger, and the fearless fashionista stunned in a colorful outfit and beauty look that can only be described as extra.
Rocking a bird-embroidered canary yellow Carolina Herrera frock, the Academy Award winner accessorized with matching drop earrings, a sparkly Judith Leiber pineapple clutch and — the pièce de résistance — sapphire- and emerald-colored Swarovski crystals dotting the inner and outer corners of her eye.
In order to let the blingy peepers shine, makeup artist Nick Barose kept the rest of the Lancome ambassador’s look fairly simple (think: glowing skin, a flushed cheek and coral lip). Calling the crystal-embellished beauty “glamour with a touch of quirk,” Barose shared on Instagram that he was inspired by Pride Month and a desire to not take makeup so seriously. “I [have] been watching @poseonfx and #parisisburning and it’s Pride so I want my client to look like going to the drag Ball Realness!! Glamour, camp and fun. Vintage @lancomeofficial (#FredFarrugia 90s collection) and @swarovski cabouchons,” the celeb makeup guru wrote.
Complete with a plaited updo by mane man Michael Warren and bright blue mani by Deborah Lippmann, Lupita’s high-fashion more is more ensemble was a bright spot on the red carpet — though we’ve come to expect nothing less of the actress and her glam/style squad. Having worked with Erlanger since she first broke onto the scene, the actress told Us that she considers her relationship with the stylist a match made in heaven, and we couldn’t agree more.
“It’s a marriage that I’m very happy in! She listens very keenly and she interprets my ideas … She just responds in such an organic, dynamic kind of way and I just love that,” she shares. “Like I never know what she’s going to bring in next. It never gets old, it’s always so exciting. She’s not just looking to make headlines, she’s looking to make clients feel comfortable and look beautiful in whatever they wear and I love that.”
