Be careful what you wish for!
For Margot Robbie‘s transformation into a Bay Ridge model-turned-trophy wife in The Wolf of Wall Street with Leonardo DiCaprio, the Australian actress knew that one style choice was a must. “The first thing I said was that my character needs acrylic nails all the time because that changes everything,” Robbie, 23, told website Violet Grey in a new interview.
However, those super-long acrylic nails proved a hindrance during certain scenes. “Well I couldn’t do anything the way I wanted to: I couldn’t wipe tears the way I would, I couldn’t brush my hair the way I would,” she revealed. “It was a massive pain in the ass to have them on for six months. I really hated them so, so much but it seriously created the character.”
To make sure her nails were on-point, Robbie had a weekly manicure session. “I was getting them done once a week,” she says. “On Sunday night, I’d get my nails and my spray tan, after I finished watching football.”
For the New York shoot for Violet Grey, Robbie looks fierce in an Alexander McQueen suit with a Mathieu Mirano white button-down and black driving gloves by The Row, and her hair is slicked back in an androgynous style. Her makeup, created by makeup artist Molly Stern, is kept sultry and soft with a brown smoky effect. For Robbie’s eyes, Stern used Nars Bali eyeshadow, Nars Rue Bonaparte eyeliner, and Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill mascara to create the look. She kept Robbie’s lips natural with Bobbi Brown Lip Color in Nude.
