Miley Cyrus’ Marc Jacobs Ad: Photographer Juergen Teller Refused to Shoot Her

Marc and Miley — minus one high profile photographer. Miley Cyrus' smoldering, sulky spring ad campaign for Marc Jacobs dropped Wednesday, Jan. 8, but the look of the stormy shot was ever-so-slightly different from the brand's usual look. That's because Jacobs was forced to tap a different photographer to shoot the campaign, after his usual point man Juergen Teller refused to work with the "Adore You" crooner.

"He just didn’t want to shoot her," Jacobs told WWD on Thursday. In his place, photographer David Sims took the photos — which were set at a beach and styled by Stefan Beckman — of Cyrus, 21, and two models, instead. "We wanted this beach with the girls kind of sulky and broody, and we thought it would be cool if it was Miley with what could be two friends, feeling distant and quite dark," the New York-based designer shared.

While Teller opted out from this particular shoot, the brand's go-to photographer still shot other models for Marc by Marc Jacobs' spring 2014 ad campaign. In the past, Teller has shot numerous celebs for numerous Marc Jacobs ad campaigns including Dakota Fanning, Victoria Beckham and Sofia Coppola. The German photographer's work with the brand has even been compiled into a book titled, Marc Jacobs Advertising 1998-2009.

Despite his refusal, Jacobs told WWD, "I have worked with Juergen for years and love him as an artist."

Like Teller, Cyrus has also maintained a close working relationship with the famed fashion figure, most recently posing nude for Jacobs' "Protect the Skin You're In" campaign, in support of the NYU Skin Cancer Institute. (The T-shirt campaign was shot by Brian Bowen Smith and features celebrities like Bar Rafaeli, Heidi Klum and Winona Ryder in the nude.)

She is also frequently snapped in Jacobs' designs on the red carpet, too. “We all just love her and her entire being, her energy, her talent, her intelligence, everything,” Jacobs said of the global pop sensation. "There’s nothing I don’t like about her. She is just genuine and very natural."
