Among the many fashion trends (leather! cutouts! backless!) on the red carpet at the MTV VMAs on Aug. 24 in Inglewood, Calif., one ruled them all.
The crop top was seen on just about every celebrity including Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Lucy Hale and Victoria Justice.
To honor the midriff-flaunting style that just won't quit, Us Weekly compiled the best versions of the crop top from the red carpet into one giant image.
Among the most notable was the "Shake It Off" singer, who wore a white fringed crop top and matching shorts for her performance. The custom Lorena Sarbu featured hand-beaded Swarovski crystals that helped Swift dazzle on stage.
Meanwhile, last year's controversy-stirring star Cyrus looked utterly chic in a black bandeau top and high-waisted harem pants by Alexandre Vauthier Couture. While the ensemble offered peeks at her skin, it's a stark contrast to Cyrus' onstage ensemble of 2013: a nude bra and matching underwear, accessorized with that infamous foam finger.

Nickelodeon star Justice stuck to a simple color palette but an interesting silhouette. She paired the white bustier top by Alice + Olivia by Stacey Bendet with a high-low ruffled skirt by LUBLU Kira Plastinina.
