They clean up well! Nikki Reed and Ian Somerhalder have spent much of their first few weeks as husband and wife in barefoot, beachy bliss — but as they proved on Wednesday, May 20, they can still rock a red carpet with the best of ’em.
The newlyweds made a glam post-wedding appearance at the 68th Annual Cannes Film Festival today in France, where they took in a screening of the movie Youth. It was their first joint red carpet since they said “I do” on April 26 in Topanga, Calif.
The Vampire Diaries actor, 36, cut a dapper figure in his classic Armani tux and Louboutin shoes (styled by Ilaria Urbinati), while the Twilight actress, 27, slayed in a dreamy midnight blue column gown (by Azzaro) with contrasting embroidery and a sheer, floor-sweeping cape.
The two posed side by side outside the theater, with Somerhalder occasionally stopping to help fix the train of his wife’s gown. When it was time to go inside, he led her by the hand up the carpeted steps, cameras still flashing behind them.
As previously reported, the duo capped their whirlwind nine-month courtship with an intimate wedding in late April. Afterward, they jetted off on their honeymoon in Costa Rica, where they took in the local sights.
“Salty…sandy…sticky…sunburned. The best,” Reed captioned one photo of herself in Somerhalder’s arms. “I love this human. My human.”
