Olivia Wilde Gives Us a Masterclass in the Art of Necklace Layering

Crystal Light #tap

Olivia Wilde just inspired Us to break out our wearable crystals. The actress, director, activist and True Botanicals ambassador stepped out to celebrate the brand on Tuesday, June 13, and posted a selfie to capture her look. Featured: glowing skin, lowkey makeup, a La Ligne white top and the best darn necklace layer we’ve seen in a while around her neck.

How does one layer five necklaces and not look cluttered? Well, there’s an art to Wilde’s Karla Welch-styled ensembles. First and foremost, not only were all of her necklaces made out of the same metal (gold) but they were all similarly dainty — all of which works together for an understated layer.

Second, Wilde made sure to rock pieces of varying length. For example, her longest pendant echoed the deep-V of her top and followed the same visual lines, drawing the eyes up and down her look fluidly.

The look also included two nameplate necklaces. The trick to pulling such a move off is to make sure one of the nameplates is smaller than the other, or as Wilde did, wear one as a choker and one slightly looser around the nape of the neck.

Sandwiched between her nameplate pieces and her longer chain, Wilde also rocked two crystal Irene Neuwirth pendants with sleek, colored geodes. The similar cut of the stones kept things from appearing too busy, but the varying colors also kept things interesting. Not to mention, wearing crystals espouses all sorts of good vibes.

The takeaway here: master the art of the layer and carry your #Vibes with you like Olivia Wilde does. You’ll look chic and maybe even feel better too.
