A charmed life, indeed! With summer in full swing, Duchess Kate and Prince William have jetted off to France with their children, Prince George, 2, and Princess Charlotte, 15 months. According to the French newspaper Sud Ouest, this is the positively stunning hotel (with royal roots!) they stayed at.
The news outlet reported that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, both 34, spent one night at the Hotel du Palais in Biarritz, a popular resort town near the border of France and Spain. The five-star resort boasts multiple restaurants run by a Michelin star–winning chef, a full-service spa, gorgeously appointed rooms and, of course, the beautiful French coastline right outside its door.
If the seaside stunner looks like a palace, that’s because it once was. Napoleon III — he reigned as emperor from 1852 to 1870 — and his wife, Eugenie de Montijo, used it as their imperial residence during the summer, hence its nickname “the queen of resorts and the resort of kings.”
Go ahead, just ogle some of these photos:
And while the photo below features neither George nor Charlotte, can you just imagine?
Kensington Palace has yet to release official word on the trip, but both Prince William and Prince George celebrate summer birthdays (June 21 and July 22, respectively), so it’s the perfect time of year for a getaway.
Next up, the royal couple will travel to Canada this autumn. “The Duke and Duchess are delighted to be returning to Canada. They hold very happy memories from their visit in 2011 — their first overseas tour as a married couple,” a spokesperson for Kensington Palace said. “They are really looking forward to seeing other parts of this beautiful country and having the opportunity to meet many more Canadians along the way.” It’s yet to be announced if George and Charlotte will be joining their parents on the adventure.
