Everybody's got an opinion on three-year-old Shiloh Jolie-Pitt's new 'do — including the professionals.
"It's very Princess Charming," celebrity stylist Matthew James Fugate tells UsMagazine.com of the cropped cut Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's daughter debuted Tuesday at a Paris clothing store. The new 'do "embrace[s] femininity in a [style] that's not superlong," says Fugate, who works out of Manhattan's Sam Brocato Salon.
Fugate — who also makes "house calls" for clients' young kids — compares the "soft, dainty" cut to styles once worn by Natalie Portman and Michelle Williams. "Not all little girls have to look like beauty queens with pageant hair," he explains to Us.
"It's a precious haircut and she has a beautiful face," says Rachel Gower, founder of Upper Hand Salons in Houston, Tex. and an on-air style expert. But Gower, who often cuts kids' hair, speculates whether Shiloh's "modified pixie" was intentional. "That's a real precision haircut" for wiggly three-year olds, she tells Us. "What will happen is, you're about to make a really important cut, and the child jerks…It might have been that was going to get a bob at first!"
"It's not a contrived look," stylist and StyloNY.com co-founder Giulia Heiman tells Us. Heiman has worked with celebs like Amy Poehler, Chloe Sevigny, LeAnn Rimes and even Jolie herself. ("She is unique in her own right," says Heiman, who assisted celeb stylist Ted Gibson when we he styled Jolie's tresses.) "A short, cropped little shag like that is great for a little kid. It's gonna grow out well. She can go roll around the dirt and still look really cute."
"I would give it an A-plus," Cozy Friedman of Cozy's Cuts for Kids in Manhattan raves to Us. "Shiloh has fine hair; by cutting it short, it makes it look thicker and healthier," says Friedman, whose young clients include Hollywood director Sofia Coppola's young daughter Romy.
"A short haircut on a girl isn't always that easy to carry," Friedman points out. "Shiloh can carry it. She's very easygoing, like her parents, and can carry a lot of looks well."
The kid stylist doubts Shiloh chose the cut herself. "At the age of 3, it's still more about what the parents want. Once they get older, maybe 5 or 6, it becomes a negotiation."
And Friedman (also CEO of So Cozy Hair Care for Children products) "absolutely" predicts new client requests for the "Shiloh cut." She should know: "we get a lot of requests for the Maddox cut. We're doing tons of faux baby faux-hawks all the time."
Another popular celeb kid cut request? "People come in asking for Suri cuts for their daughter."
Tell Us: would you get your daughter the "Shiloh" cut?
