Taylor Swift Celebrates International Cat Day in a Kitty Sweatshirt

She’s the cat’s meow! Taylor Swift’s latest Instagram story did double duty on Monday, August 8. The “New Romantics” singer, 26, celebrated International Cat Day and Shawn Mendes’ 18th birthday in one fell swoop.

In a seven-second clip, Swift rocked a long-sleeve, slouchy sweatshirt featuring two neon pink cats. It was a far cry from her sequin-encrusted tour wardrobe, but it still worked well for her impromptu lip-synch performance of Mendes’ hit song “Treat You Better.”

Mendes, who retweeted Billboard’s post about Swift’s birthday wishes, partied in a different way: on stage in Nashville. His bandmates surprised him with a cake, and the entire crowd joined them in a rock ’n’ roll rendition of “Happy Birthday.”

“Surprised me with one of my best friends on stage tonite @tmmattjr,” the “Stitches” singer tweeted along with a clip of the moment. “Thank you for all the birthday wishes!!!”

Swift was one of many stars who saluted the young heartthrob on his special day. Zedd, Nick Jonas and Nic Tangorra also wished him a happy birthday.

The “Bad Blood” singer, who’s dating Tom Hiddleston, showed love to her kitties well before International Cat Day. On August 4, she shared her first Instagram story was about her Scottish fold, Olivia Benson. “What’s going on?” she asked the kitty. “You feeling less like a cat and more like a squirrel today?”

Olivia responded to Swift, who’s also mom to another Scottish fold, Meredith Grey, by propping herself up on her hind legs and her paws out, posing like, well, a squirrel.
