Jazz Jennings is a 14-year-old transgender teen, who is changing the face of the beauty industry one hashtag at a time. Diagnosed with gender dysphoria at age 5, the LGBT activist works to spread her message of acceptance through the Clean & Clear “See The Real Me” campaign, the brand announced on Thursday, March 12.
“I’ve always known who I am,” Jennings states in the powerful Clean & Clear video. “I was a girl trapped in a boy’s body.”
Jennings also sheds light on being shunned by her middle school peers, but decided this year it was time to put herself out there. “For the first time I invited girls over to the house and we started hanging out more; it was a great time for me and it still is,” she says in the clip.
Not only will Jennings, who landed on TIME’s 2014 Most Influential Teens List, appear in beauty ads, she’s bringing her story to TV. On Thursday, March 12, TLC announced that it has ordered a new 11-episode reality series about the teen’s life, with the working title of All That Jazz.
The show will feature Jennings’ parents Greg and Jeanette, her older sister Ari, her twin brothers Griffen and Sander, and her grandparents Jack and Jacky, who’ve accepted her transition from male to female. “Jazz’s story is universal, yet unique and we’re proud to partner with her family to share it with TLC’s audience,” Nancy Daniels, the General Manager at TLC said in a statement.
