Flight risk? A female JetBlue passenger claimed airplane staff forced her to change before she was allowed onto a Seattle-bound plane on May 18.
The Seattle native, a burlesque dancer who goes by the stage name Maggie McMuffin, wore a pair of striped shorts paired with a tiger-theme knit to board her aircraft from Boston to Washington State's premiere city. But she was told her outfit, which grazed her upper thighs, "may offend other families," according to Seattle ABC News affiliate KOMO-TV.
Despite McMuffin offering alternatives, the flight crew stuck to their guns. "[I said], 'I could tie a sweater around my waist — I could get a blanket from you guys,'" she explained. "And they said, 'If you don't change your clothes, you're not going to be able to board this flight.'"
The passenger, who had come from a connecting flight also operated by JetBlue (without being told to change), was only able to board after she left the gate, purchased a pair of extra-large shorts from a kiosk and put them on.
For its part, JetBlue is standing behind the staff's choice. "We support our crew members' discretion to make these difficult decisions, and we decided to reimburse the customer for the cost of the new shorts and offered a credit for a future flight as a goodwill gesture," the airline told ABC News.
