If you loved Emily Ratajkowski’s statement eye makeup or Emilia Clarke's classic updo, scroll through to find out how to recreate these looks and more from the 2016 Emmy Awards in L.A. on Sunday, September 18.
Celeb makeup artist Adam Breuchaud applied Giorgio Armani Eye Tint in No. 9 on Paulson’s lids and then layered Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Intense Eyeshadow in No. 6 for an “almost liquid metal effect.” Several coats of Giorgio Armani Eccentrico Mascara added extra drama for the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or a Movie winner.
Louis-Dreyfus’ makeup artist Karen Kawahara balanced the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series winner’s smoky eye with a barely there lip color. She first lined Louis-Dreyfus’ pout with La Prairie Cellular Luxe Lip Liner Automatique in Nude, blending with a brush to prevent “hard lines.” She then added the brand’s Cellular Luxe Lip Colour in Tawny.
“I wanted to create a soft rose glow effect with Taraji’s eyes,” celeb makeup artist Ashunta Sheriff tells Stylish. After prepping with Kate Somerville Goat Milk De-Puffing Eye Balm, she chose products already approved by the Empire star — each came from Henson’s MAC Cosmetics makeup collection. First, she tapped Highlight the Truth onto the lid with her finger and brushed it along the lower lash line. Then Sheriff added definition with the coppery Taraji Glow powder in the corner and center of the eyes before lining them and adding mascara.
Clarke dazzled in an Atelier Versace gown, which also served as the inspiration for her classic updo. “I wanted to embody it in the hairstyle by bringing some structural build to it and incorporating some great classical elements at the same time,” celeb stylist Adir Abergel tells Stylish. He separated the hair into two sections, straightening the bottom half with the GHD Platinum Styler before pulling it into a very tight ponytail a few inches above the neck. Abergel then parted the top half down the middle and tied it to the bottom ponytail, smoothing Leonor Greyl Gel A l’Hibiscus over it. To create the chignon, he folded the pony, secured with hair pins and finished with Leonor Greyl Laque Souple hairspray.
The Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series winner contrasted her red Alexander Wang dress with a smoky eye created by celeb makeup artist Mai Quynh. After smoothing on Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado, the pro turned to the Makeup Academy Professional Nude Eye Shadow Palette to “play up her eyes using bronze shadows and deep browns along her lash line.” She applied the shimmery bronze all over the lid and then added the light gold to the inner eye. Qunyh defined the eyes by smudging the dark brown color along the top lash line and the bronze shadow along the bottom lash line.
To complement the Americans star’s Stephane Rolland white dress, “I wanted her makeup to feel crisp and incredibly vibrant,” makeup artist Tina Turnbow tells Stylish. Using all Chanel products, Turnbow prepped Russell’s skin with Hydra Beauty Creme, Hydra Beauty Flash Instantly Hydrating Perfecting Balm and Hydra Beauty Micro Gel Yeux Intense Smoothing Eye Gel. To maintain the complexion’s glow, Turnbow applied Le Blanc Light Creator Brightening Makeup Base in Mimosa and Le Teint Ultra Tenue Ultrawear Flawless Foundation only where she needed it.
