“I always walk into places that never have rugs and [the room] feels cold,” David Bromstad, the host of HGTV’s Color Splash, tells Us. Try a patterned shag rug like this one from JCPenney‘s Studio line to warm up a space.

"All of a sudden you can put pillows on your club chairs or on your sectionals and change the look of a room," Jeff Lewis of Bravo's Flipping Out, tells Us of the inexpensive accessories like these pillows from Pottery Barn.
"When looking for pieces for your space, equate the value piece to its purpose," says entertaining and design expert Mark Addison. An armoire, like this one from IKEA, has "always been the best friend of a city dweller with small space who needs to store a multitude of household items," he adds.
When redecorating your bathroom, pick an accessory color scheme first. "Your bath towels and [other] accessories are all going to cost more than a gallon of paint. I always choose my paint colors last," Bromstad tells Us. Add color to a drab bathroom with JCPenney's Studio Ringspun towels.
Adding furniture, like Nate Berkus' slipper chair, can actually make your space feel larger. "More often than not, one sofa and one coffee table in a small space makes the room look even smaller," Berkus, who will host his own syndicated talk show starting Sept. 13, tells Us.
"Paint is your cheapest accessory," Bromstad, a spokesman for Mythic Paint, tells Us. "If you love your place, but feel like it's tired, spend money on paint and you can give your space a whole new life."
"The large Lantern Bowl by Jonathan Adler Pottery is an ideal candidate to be used as a decorative accessory and a fantastic salad bowl or soup tureen," Addison explains. "I like multi-functional pieces that are bold enough to be considered decor yet serve an even higher purpose - you use them!"
Baskets, like these from Pottery Barn, can help store your items stylishly. "From small to large, baskets are a great catch-all for everything from books and blankets to shoes, yet they're elegant enough to go in any room of the house," Berkus tells Us.
Lamps, like this square wood version from JCPenney, are important in any home, whether you want to set a mood or brighten an ordinary space. They also give you an opportunity to accessorize. "If you get tired of the look, switching out the shade or placement adds flexibility," Lewis tells Us.
