A long ponytail without extensions? Julianne Hough just proved it’s possible at FOX’s Grease: Live For Your Consideration event on Wednesday, June 15.
The former Dancing With the Stars judge, 27, who currently has a lob, sported a voluminous, high pony that looked at least five inches longer than her hair should fall.
Her secret: undetectable mini ‘tails. “Absolutely NO extensions were used in creating this look!” Hough’s celebrity hairstylist, Riawna Capri, wrote in an explanatory Instagram. “Jules actually has 4 ponytails in this pic.”
To create the look, Capri, who also works with Selena Gomez and Nina Dobrev, first curled the Footloose alum’s hair with a 1 1/4-inch iron and used “a lot of texturizing spray,” she told Us Weekly.
Then, she pulled strands into ponytails, starting at the top of the head. Her first segment was the crown, or what she describes as “from the eyebrows back,” followed by another ponytail starting at the temples, one behind the ears, and one using whatever was left at the bottom.
To add extra volume, the L.A.-based hairstylist artfully tugged on Hough’s crown section, creating height. Since they were going for a “soft, slightly fuzzy texture,” Capri noted that she didn’t use any hairspray to secure the style.
