Refreshing honesty! Jessica Alba is Self magazine's October cover girl and looks phenomenal in yellow swimwear. But the Sin City actress revealed that she didn't always feel fit, and said she was "chubby" as a kid.
It’s hard to believe, but the cofounder of The Honest Company, 34, says she wasn’t always in amazing shape and even used to have a tough case of asthma, which made athletic feats harder for her. "I was on a swim team, and I was chubby and slow and dead last—a full two laps last. I was crying and couldn’t breathe," she told the fitness magazine.
But despite being an underdog, Alba pulled through with determination, thanks in large part to her parents. "My mom and dad were like, 'You started this, you’re going to finish it!' My parents made me stick to stuff, pick myself up. It’s painful to go through, but I appreciate that tough love," she said.
That go-getter attitude has helped her in business too, taking Honest from a dream to a $1.7 billion reality. And because of her perseverance, she's been able to advance the issues she cares about, like chemical-free children’s supplies. "I don't want to regret not going after something," she said. "You’ll only be better, even if you make mistakes."
